Our client, a major mining concern based in Africa would like to consider applications for their operations in the south of Democratic Republic of the Congo (safe area). Single status with a two year contract Fly-in-fly-out position. Reports To: General Manager Development & Managing Director. Accountability Objective The Project Manager is accountable for developing feasibility studies and executing approved company projects to ensure that the developments are completed in accordance with the business case and the approved scope schedule and budget by directing, planning and coordinating all project activities. REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Engineering or related field and ten (10) years of project management experience in a tier 1 or 2 mining company project managing greenfields and/or brownfields mining industry projects. Certified Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP) (highly desirable) Demonstrated knowledge and experience to develop project budgets in accordance with requirements of the American Association of Cost Engineers. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project management, project controls, engineering management, procurement and constructs, construction management and commissioning. Demonstrated knowledge and experience facilitating risk workshops and developing risk management plans. Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and interpret metallurgical literature, technical data and manuals, material safety data sheets and utilise information to improve process, prevent loss or minimise risk. Demonstrated knowledge and experience managing EPCM, EPC and principle contractors. Demonstrated knowledge and experience managing health, safety, environment and community relations. Ability and experience making project presentations to project steering committees, contactors, communities and government representatives. People oriented and results driven Demonstrable experience with mining metrics Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills Competency to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company Experience working in a developing country (highly desirable) Fluency in English (essential), French (highly desirable) PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Completing projects feasibility studies defining scope schedule and budget in accordance with the company’s project management guidelines and investment criteria. Preparing and implementing the Project Execution Plan Ensuring an achievable schedule is set and maintained for the project Authorise commitments and expenditures in accordance with the approved budget, within authority levels, and control costs within budget limits Selecting and recommending Owner’s Project Team staff necessary to perform the work. Leading and managing the Owner’s Project Team by clearly defining expectations of the Team’s roles and responsibilities, training and mentoring direct reports, and ensure direct reports are trained, on what is needed to do their jobs safely and effectively. Ensuring fair and consistent treatment of all individuals by addressing performance issues with personnel and hold them accountable to expectations jointly agreed to, and have direct reports do the same. Selecting and recommending the engagement of the consultants and contractors necessary to complete the allocated tasks. Ensuring quality assurance, safety, environmental, human resource and employee relations programs are established and maintained by all parties. Providing direction and review the performance of the study and implementation contractor’s team. Ensuring accurate and timely reporting standards are maintained throughout the project. Pre-commissioning and commissioning the facilities and infrastructure, and provide support to the Operations Manager during start up. Handing over facilities, support services and staff as appropriate. Promoting and leading continuous practices, managing change and assessing risks, actively pursuing methods to reduce risks, and continually investigate and implement ways to improve the effectiveness of the Owner’s Team implementing best practice.
