Job Description

Purpose of the role:

To effectively but to ensure constant sales growth and increase in gross margins coupled with necessary advertising spend recoupment.

Key Receivers of Work:

Stores, DC’s, Buyer assistant, suppliers, Divisional advertising co-ordinators.

Product Range and line determination:

  • 1st to market
  • Price Competitiveness
  • Comprehensive coverage categories
  • Strategy and Brand logic applied
  • Good Understanding of categories
  • Range Rationalization
  • Effective administration maintained (complete and up-to-date)

Product Pricing (Cost and Selling Prices):

  • Competitive / cheapest
  • Pricing objectives based on knowledge of market  prices / current trends / market leaders
  • Effective utilization of negotiating skills to achieve pricing objectives
  • Demonstrates personal drive to obtain best cost price
  • Effective administration maintained (complete & up-do-date)
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information

Advertising and Promotions:

  • Line selection
  • Price points
  • Competitor pricing
  • Stock availability at suppliers
  • Timeous supply of information to marketing coordinator
  • Effective administration maintained (complete & up-do-date)

Manager Buyer Assistants:

  • Allocates work and sets priorities
  • Monitors progress and quality
  • Resolves escalated issues / Provides support
  • Develops – create learning opportunities / delegates tasks / expand role / coaches
  • Provides regular performance feedback
  • Assist Senior Buyer in selection of buyer assistant

 

 

 

Resolve Stock Level Issues in Stores and DC’s:

  • Reaction time to resolve
  • Awareness of price movements to advise DC pro-actively
  • Awareness of shortages to pro-actively avoid client shortages
  • Effective administration maintained (complete & up-do-date)

Merchandising Layout Determination:

  • Practical
  • Reflects understanding of shopper patterns
  • Timeous communication with Division
  • Effective administration maintained (complete & up-do-date)

Qualifications/ Education

  • Grade 12 / Matric Essential
  • Business diploma or degree will be desirable

Experience

  • Successful completion of Trainee Buyer Program or experience as a Buyer in Food Retail

Functional Competencies

  • Working knowledge of Buying-Systems
