Position: Diesel Mechanic / Working Foreman

Location: Lagos, Nigeria (18 month ongoing contract)

Reporting to: Service Manager

Salary: From $ 2, 500 p/m net Negotiable (approx. R 33, 200 per month depending on exchange rate)

Benefits: Medical, Accommodation, Meals, Transport (all living expenses)



Our client, based in Lagos (Nigeria), is seeking strong Workshop Managers with HGV Diesel Mechanic experience.     

This position will require the selected candidate to spend 18 months in Nigeria at a time (negotiable).


Key Responsibility Areas:

  • To achieve and persistently maintain high standards of workmanship and competence in performing tasks associated with preventative maintenance checks, services, repairs of vehicles, trailers and related equipment.
  • To accurately diagnose faults or malfunctions, to determine required repairs, so as to ensure proper vehicle / equipment performance and compliance with manufacturers specifications.
  • Correct faults / defects by removing, repairing, overhauling, disassembling, assembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, systems and / or making adjustments, alignments in compliance with manufactures specifications.
  • Verify vehicle performance / compliance with both the manufacturers’ specifications and all Federal / State requirements by conducting dynamic road test and adjusting all controls and systems as required.
  • To carry out emergency road repairs to vehicles when required
  • Responsible for ensuring that all workshop areas are in a clean and orderly condition at all times and that all spares, tolls, consumables and other materials are correctly stowed in the relevant storage areas.
  • Responsible for completion of all job cards, time sheets, spares requisitions, preventive maintenance checklists and submission of such documents to the relevant personal and departments.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Matric
  • Qualified diesel mechanic
  • Valid HGV drivers’ license
  • Relevant work experience of at least 3 years in a fleet or OEM Dealership HGV workshop
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform duties which include lifting, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending and carrying
  • Proven ability to use hand tools, power tolls, jacks, hoists
  • Proven ability to use specialised tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, test gauges etc
