Job Description

General Manager – Credit and Financial Services

Johannesburg Central

R1- R1,2 Million

 

Purpose of the job

Responsible for:

  1. Driving sales of new accounts and financial services products, through all channels and across various countries, including South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho and Botswana described above both on credit and cash in partnership with the respective Chain Operations and JV partners (Hollard, Accenture Services and other 3rd party).
  2. Determining optimal sales channel strategies to minimise acquisition costs, obtain the optimal customer demographics in line with C&FS and Retail Chain strategies and ensuring profitable sales growth of new credit and financial services accounts so as to drive overall Group credit sales and C&FS Chain EBITDA.
  3. Responsible for the profitable management of the Company/Hollard joint venture with ultimate accountability of the Financial Services budget and resulting EBITDA.

 

Key Responsibilities: -

Strategic Solution Generation

  • Evaluate market trends with respect to competitor offerings, emerging distribution channels (such as digital) and Company specific strategic goals, ensuring alignment with local and international Regulatory framework, in order to develop a sales and distribution strategy that maximizes growth, minimises cost and ensures the highest overall profitability for the Group. 
  • Continuously monitor existing third party supplier performance (e.g. telesales, digital marketing suppliers, etc.) against internal and external benchmarks and evaluate new entrants in order to adjust the short and long term strategy and ensure attainment of financial goals. 
  • Ensure that New Account acquisition strategies take into account market trends and Company debtor’s book characteristics such as risk management underwriting strategies, resource planning, employee incentive schemes and available and emerging technologies.
  • Managing of FS & Credit in-force books by using unique ways (direct marketing, promotions internal & external, loyalty etc.) to effectively reduce attrition and lapses.
  • Creates new Insurance product acquisition strategies and must take into account market trends and the Hollard JV insurance book characteristics such as insurance risk management underwriting strategies, resource planning, employee incentive schemes and available and emerging technologies through the various channels. Must be able to work effectively through third party strategic partners, across functional lines and with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensures adherence to Credit and FS regulatory framework, procedures, processes and technology infrastructure. 
  • Continuously review existing processes and identify opportunities to improve/enhance/automate to drive down costs and improve efficiencies 

Stakeholder Relationship Building, Networking & Management

  • Manage the Hollard JV relationship
  • Build and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in order to drive each business unit's strategic objectives.
  • Provide regular feedback to senior management about marketplace and competitor activity.
  • Develop effective working relationships with stakeholders and identifies and obtains further sales and business development opportunities.

Professional Service Delivery

  • Maintains awareness of both the external and internal competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry developments and standards.
  • Influences key stakeholders through research and presentation of information to obtain support for business objective.

Budget & Financial management

  • Compile and achieve business unit sales, profitability & customer service targets.
  • Set and achieve the" business to business" sales & profitability targets.
  • Ensures EBITDA growth of the business unit.
  • Manage the operating expenses of the business in line with the budget requirements.
  • Accountable for entire P & L of the business unit.

People Management

  • Create a culture of coaching & high performance in the business. This will include the management of performance of all direct reports (formally and informally), ensuring that regular feedback, coaching and mentoring on performance is given, to enable continuous improvement.
  • Develop Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for all direct reports and ensure that the agreed development interventions are delivered.

Requirements / qualifications:

Functional Degree/Diploma preferable

5 - 6 relevant experience at management level

Preferred; candidate with a “Key Individual” Accreditation
